Signs That It’s Time to Repaint Your Home in St. Louis, MO
It’s somewhat well known that the act of painting your home can be one of the best ways that you can make your home look nicer both on the inside and out — but it’s not always clear that the time has come to paint it.
It’s helpful to know when you are going to need to paint your home (whether on the interior or exterior) so here is a general overview of the kinds of things you should look out for that will indicate that the time has come.
With that being the case, let’s have a look at some signs that it’s time to repaint your home (and in some cases, it’s overdue for it!)
1. It Has Been Long Enough
One quick and relatively easy sign that it’s a good time to paint is if it has been a really long time since you have last painted.
Depending on the kind of work that was done and the quality of the paint that was used, the paintwork will still be looking good for about five to ten years — after that, painting would be strongly suggested.
If it has been over ten years, it’s certainly time to paint — not just because you want your home to look nicer, but because as time goes on and you don’t paint you will have to spend more time and money to get the surface ready for painting if you wait too long on it.
2. You’re Looking To Sell
As much as you might like the colors that you have selected for your home, that doesn’t necessarily mean that those are the colors that will appeal to the home buying market.
Indeed, though it may seem a bit odd there are plenty of people who will look at a home that is painted with certain colors and not want to buy it, even though they are quite able to paint the homes themselves — they would just rather not deal with that kind of stress.
Consequently, it is a good idea to have a look at what colors are best when it comes to selling your home — your realtor might even be one of the best sources for this kind of information — and then go with those colors for your painting projects.
3. You Want A Change
Sometimes quite simply the most reasonable reason to change the color or colors in your home is just that you want a change in it.
If you have been living in your home for a couple of years and don’t particularly care for the colors that were chosen for the walls, for example (perhaps the previous owners went to a realtor for color choices) it is absolutely okay to want to change them.
The good thing about these kinds of circumstances is that you’re going to be able to choose the color or colors for your home based on your own likes and interests, and you won’t really have to paint again until it’s the next time to paint… or maybe when you want to sell your home!
4. The Style Has Become Outdated
Lastly (for now — we can return to this subject in the future) remember that the current and hip looking color of today may become a rather unpleasant looking color in a few years.
It was not too long ago that certain shades of orange and green were all the rage — they no longer are and scream of the seventies which of course might just be your thing (and that’s okay) but if you are the sort of person that likes to stay current what is trending in colors, you’ll want to paint.
Of course, you should realize that painting according to the current style means that eventually your color choice will be no longer be as trendy as they were — and that’s okay!
